Old World Wisconsin

On Sunday my mother, sister, Josie and I headed out to Old World Wisconsin for Laura Ingalls Wilder Day. It'd been years since any of us had been so we thought we would enjoy the day outside; Curt and my father passed on this outing making it a Girl's Day which is a common thing for my mother, sister, and I and now Josie too!

Just playing in the gift shop.

Laura Ingall's Josie..there was a dress up contest to see who looked the most like Laura Ingall's Wilder. Some of the girls were really cute. Josie didn't blend in at all with her neon UVA top and hawaiian hat!

Raspberry School; Grades 1-8 No Way! One grade is enough for me.

Taking the tram between exhibits. Josie loved this and wouldn't look to the camera. See how her had is flipped up...that is from the wind blowing in her face. She fussed anytime the tram stopped to load and unload, she wanted to keep going.

When she saw the horses come by she would stop and watch them closely. This is the same look she has when she's watching Mulligan and Bogey.

A horse team coming through, there were many throughout the day.

Jodi, Josie, and Grandma Yoohoo
Josie slept for about half of our visit but when she woke up she loved it and
was very alert and looking around; she didn't know what to stare at first.

Parlor room that mom liked.

Blacksmiths hard at work. We also saw people making ice cream, a cobbler, butter being made, twine being spun, hay being bundled. Lots of things to do but not lots of pictures for you.

Baby for Sale....NO WAY!!!!

We had a rummage over the weekend and did amazing...$350! It's the magic of Burleigh, I tell my friends. But the biggest question was is the baby for sale, how much? I don't think so people! Here's a cute pic of her from the day.

Escape Artist...

Thanks for the Loan Jennie!

My good friend Jennie lent us her Baby Bjorn because she didn't use it often with her kids. Tonight was the first time we really tried it out. Josie loves to be upright and looking at the world and this worked perfectly! A few times I stopped and she started fussing because she wanted to keep moving! Here we are at the end of the walk...looks like it tired Josie out!

From That to This!

So last August I signed up for a quilting class with my mother.
My mother is a wonderful quilter and definetly does not need a class but I did not want to be alone and I knew that I would need extra help that the teacher might have a hard time juggling in addition to her other students. You know...not being able to thread a needle or wind a bobbin but I wanted to tackle making a quilt! Here are all of the fabrics before...

And here they are after!

This is a sampler quilt; the purpose to teach different ways to cut, different patterns, and stiching techniques. I must say love the color palette above but the actual piece is a little busy for me so I'm hoping to make another but with fewer colors and block designs. I really like the star, pinwheel, and X blocks so I want to pick one of those and just repeat it over and over in a 5x4 block dimension.

And here it is being put to use and spit up on within 5 minutes of completion
Oh well, had to wash it anyways :)

And lucky we had a girl! I signed up for the class right after I found out we were pregnant and thought it would be a good size for a play blanket or crib. In the quilt shop I had a feeling it was a girl so I went with it and picked out the pinks. This took me 11 months to finish, what would have happened if we had a boy?!?!

3 month photo shoot

Curt's favorite picture and the only one with a smile!

This is what Josie thought of posing for pictures!

Ughh, why are you all acting so weird and making crazy noises?

A little extra they did to try to get us to buy more!

My favorite picture

We took Josie in to Target Portraits for 3 month photos; they had a great coupon for $7.99--free sitting fee, two 8x10, two 5x7, four 3x5, and 16 wallets. Definetly within a teacher's budget for the summer! We really liked the photographer and she tried her hardest to get Josie to smile but Josie Rose wasn't having it...we got one smile out of her otherwise she just looked at us like we were all crazy making faces and sounds at her. Josie is free with her smiles to Curt and I but seems more wary of those she doesn't know too well. We did spend about 30 minutes with Denise who will most likely be babysitting Josie at back to school time and she was able to get like 4 smiles out of her without much effort and Josie had a bottle for the majority of the time; that was nice to see.

3 Months Old and Sleeping in her crib...

Not sure why the blog is turning the pictures but here's a pic of Josie on her 3 month birthday!
She has really started smiling for us and will do it in response to Curt or my smile. Sometimes she'll do it for others but usually if they are working for it. It just makes my heart soar when she sees me, makes eye contact, and smiles back at me... On the way back from Rhinelander I told Curt I wasn't going to set the pack n play back up in our room and I would have Josie start sleeping in her crib. She had no problems; I think mom and dad had them though... I got teary-eyed, Curt checked on her a couple of times through the night and this was in addition to the baby monitor and movement monitor that we have in her room. Oh and in addition to the fact that it is only 10 steps from our bed to her crib!

Here she is when we layed her down and her she is when she woke up! She's a squirmy one..

Week 12!

Josie at 12 weeks is so much more aware of the world...she watches Curt or I as we walk through the room, she has 'conversations with you' and wants to be sitting up non-stop or standing...laying is not an option for her unless she's sleepy or playing on her mat!
